Shove It In Your Cupboard

In keeping with the theme of not having a theme, this episode is different than all of the past episodes. It's all about a single band: Bozeman, MT's Oxide.

Oxide was a fun punk band who dabbled in country, bluegrass, blues, ragtime, surf, and even salsa (musical style, not condiment), who were active circa 2000-2005, though quite possibly both earlier and later than that. ...Actually, that's kinda what blew me away about them: they seemed to come outta nowhere but they had their aesthetic and playing down pat (they "came out of nowhere" because they didn't travel and weren't well-known, even in other cities in Montana). These guys were seemingly seasoned musicians who were fine with improvisation (lyrical and musical) and never seemed to not be having a genuinely good time...and they didn't give a shit if they played poorly or even if no one knew or cared who they were. ...Though, for your information, who they were were:

Chris Donahue- vocals, guitar, banjolin, fiddle, harmonica
Chris Baisle- bass, backup vocals
Joe- drums, backup vocals

Before that, I hear that a guy named Dan Yarnall used to play drums.

If you're interested in other musical projects of these guys, rumor has it that Donahue was part of a touring metal band for a while. He also has a newer band called The Meatskin Jubilee Jugband, who you can hear here: http://www.myspace.com/meatskinjubileejugband

Joe played drums in Bomberman Awesome, another Bozeman group who were active around the same years; they moved to Seattle and broke up in 2009. www.bombermanawesome.com

These guys also had a loose affiliation with Bi-Polar Ben and The Touchers, a pretty excellent group out of Bozeman, whose singer/songwriter passed away in 2007. I think both Donahue and Baisle were in the band for a while and Oxide played two of Ben's songs on their album "Acoustic Oxide/I Live In A Land Of Chaos". Check 'em out: http://www.myspace.com/touchers

Oh, also: I contradict myself on the podcast by saying that a.) there were a lot of people at their Billings show, and b.) that the Billings show was sparsely attended. To clarify: yeah, there was hardly anyone there. Maybe 20 people. Maybe.

Thanks to Joel Gnar and Nels "I like Jen"sen for loaning me so much Oxide stuff.
